UK researchers are designing detectors for LSST's special camera

To deliver a fast, high-resolution and wide view of the cosmos, LSST needs a very special camera. The 'e2v CCD250' is a custom CCD designed for LSST and made with a novel manufacturing process to achieve a total non-flatness of less than 5µm. The CCD250 is a HiRho CCD back-thinned to 100µm with a custom multi-layer antireflection coating to give an optimum combination or high quantum efficiency across a broad range of wavelengths and highest possible resolution or point spread function.
