LSST:UK Funding and Governance

Funding

The LSST:UK Science Centre (LUSC) is funded by the Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC) to provide the tools and techniques needed to place the UK at the forefront of the scientific exploitation of the multi-Petabyte LSST dataset. LUSC activity includes development of an LSST Data Access Centre for the UK and taking a share of the LSST data processing as well as targetting R&D effort into a set of key science areas.

STFC’s mission is to deliver world-leading national and international research and innovation capabilities and, through those, discover the secrets of the Universe.

Governance

The LSST:UK Consortium is governed by a Board, with an appointed representative from each partner institution. The Board delegates day-to-day oversight of the LSST:UK Science Centre to an Executive Group, chaired by the Project Leader. The science strategy and the engagement with LSST in key scientific areas is the responsibility of a Science Working Group, whose chair is the Project Scientist.
