LSST to be renamed in honour of Vera Rubin

The LSST facility will become the Vera Rubin Observatory

It has been announced - see https://www.lsst.org/news/vro-press-release for the full press release - that the LSST facility is to be renamed the Vera Rubin Observatory, in honour of one of the discovers of the observational evidence for dark matter. The VRO's primary telecope is to be renamed the Simonyi Survey Telescope, in recognition of a donation from former Microsoft executive Charles Simonyi that enabled an early start to work on its primary mirror, while the LSST name lives on with the title for the survey itself becoming the Legacy Survey of Space and Time
