Simonyi Survey Telescope dedicated

A $20 million gift by the Charles Simonyi Fund for Arts and Sciences in 2008 enabled the construction of the telescope’s mirrors.

The Simonyi Family were guests of honour at the recent dedication of the Simonyi Survey Telescope. The donation also contributed to programmes such as the LSST Corporation (now the LSST Discovery Alliance(link is external)) Data Science Fellowship Program, which trains graduate students to meet the scientific challenges posed by large astronomy datasets. 

The dedication recognises the pivotal role that Charles and Lisa Simonyi’s philanthropy has played in advancing construction of the Observatory and supporting research that will soon transform our understanding of the Universe
